Do you prefer being inside or outside with your kids? Are you drawn to a comfortable couch and a cool air conditioned room? Are you pulled outside by the possibilities of roaming the wilds?

What about your kids? Are their preferences the same as yours?

Some kids are happy and excited to get outside and run around. Other kids prefer to hang out in the house.

I was one of those hang out in the house and watch television kind of kids growing up. Watching soap operas with my stepmother was what we did together.

My son loved to roam the woods with the kids in the neighborhood in the small town we lived in his first 11 years of life. Outside was where the adventures were for himĀ  and his friends.

The thing we both agreed on was playing in the leaves during the fall. Raking the leaves into a big ole pile and then diving into it made us both laugh so hard it seemed like the whole rest of the world had melted away.

Now that he’s all grown up, I’m glad I took the time to toss the leaves in the air and giggle with him. That memory brings me more joy than all the delights of snuggling under a cozy blanket with my favorite book.

If I had the opportunity to go back and relive a single moment with him, I think it would be outside, in that pile of leaves.

What do your kids like to do? Go outside or stay inside?
